The 10-Second Stress-Buster: How to Stay Composed Under Pressure

In our fast-paced working world, stress can ambush us when we least expect it. Whether you’re a Chief of Staff juggling a million tasks or an entry-level employee who is battling the daily grind, having a quick and effective stress-busting tool is essential.

Enter the 10-Second Stress Buster - a quick and easy way to stay composed under pressure.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Stop: When stress creeps in, pause whatever you’re doing.

  2. Breathe: Close your eyes (if you can), take a deep breath in, and exhale slowly.

  3. Look: Identify three things you can see and name them silently.

  4. Listen: Tune in to two sounds, whether distant or nearby.

  5. Touch: Place or tap your hand on an object nearby.

  6. Smile: Even if it's forced initially, take a moment to smile.

Tapping into your sense brings you back to the present moment. Breathing gets oxygen to your brain (which leads to clearer thinking and decision-making). Smiling releases endorphins that will reduce your anxiety.

This quick reset takes just a few seconds, so give it a try!
